FCK Mum Guilt: Why It’s Time to Invest in Yourself, Mama

As mums, we constantly find ourselves caught in a cycle of sacrifice. We prioritize our babies’ needs, endlessly upgrading their wardrobes, while our own clothes become an afterthought. The guilt of spending on ourselves, when there’s always something our little ones “need,” can be overwhelming. But it’s time to change the narrative. It’s time to say, “Fuck mum guilt,” and start taking care of ourselves.

We’ve all been there. Browsing through baby stores, eyes lighting up at the sight of tiny, adorable outfits. Before we know it, our carts are full of new clothes for our babies while we continue wearing the same worn-out clothes. We justify it, telling ourselves that the baby grows so fast and needs new clothes regularly. Meanwhile, our wardrobe remains neglected, and the idea of spending money on ourselves feels almost criminal.

The irony is, this constant scrimping on our needs ends up costing us more in the long run. We settle for cheaper options for ourselves, thinking we’re saving money, but these items often wear out quickly or don’t fit well. We end up replacing them frequently, leading to more spending over time.

This is especially true during the breastfeeding journey. Our bodies change, and having a wardrobe that supports these changes is crucial. Investing in good-quality, comfortable, and functional breastfeeding clothes can make a world of difference. Properly designed breastfeeding bras, tops, and dresses not only provide the necessary support but also make the breastfeeding process more convenient and enjoyable.

By prioritizing our needs, we set a powerful example for our children. We show them that self-care is essential and that mums deserve to feel good about themselves. When we take care of ourselves, we’re better equipped to take care of our families. A confident, comfortable mum is a happier, more present mum.

So, let’s break the cycle. Let’s start investing in ourselves. Buy that well-fitting breastfeeding bra, splurge on yourself, buy that shirt that’s going to make breastfeeding easier, find a dress that makes you feel beautiful. By creating a wardrobe that supports your breastfeeding journey, you’re not only investing in your comfort but also in your confidence and well-being.

Remember, it’s not selfish to spend on yourself—it’s necessary. Embrace the new narrative. Take care of your baby, but take care of yourself too. Say goodbye to mum guilt and hello to a more balanced, joyful motherhood. You deserve it.
